Teton Nordic Ski School COVID-19 Precautions:
Before and during our lessons, Teton Nordic Ski School will make every effort to maximize the safety of our students and instructors.
While operating during the COVID19 pandemic, it's impossible to completely remove the risk of virus transmission.
However, we can minimize risk of transmission by working together!
- Group lesson size is limited to 8 students and 1-2 instructors.
- Instructors and students will be required to properly wear a face covering such as a surgical mask or double layer buff that fully covers the nose and the mouth while in the presence of others when six feet of physical distancing is not possible or hard to maintain. This will likely be during our initial check-in and introductions. When out on the ski trails, face coverings should be at the ready, if we need to group up for closer proximity instruction.
- Please reschedule your lesson if you are sick or have been in close contact with someone known to have tested positive to COVID-19 within the past 14 days.

- If you are unable to tolerate wearing a face covering for the duration of the lesson check-in, introductions, and when necessary out on the trails, you should delay your participation in a lesson until your condition changes or the requirement is removed.
Cross-Country Skiing
Two Styles: - Classic Skiing - Skate Skiing -
Teton Nordic Ski School offers cross-country ski lessons in both the traditional classic style and the more modern skating style of cross-country skiing.

Classic skiing is where you "kick and glide". The skis are parallel to each other and the poles are just about shoulder height. On the base of the ski in the area under the foot, you can apply grip wax or they have "fishscales" or a furry area (referred to as skins) so that you can grip the snow while you kick. See the skier on the left in the photo above.

Skate skiing is where your skis are in a "V" shape, with the tips are far from each other and the tails are close together. By pushing off from one ski to the other in a side to side motion, you "skate" on your skis. Skate skis are typically shorter than classic skis and smooth the entire length of the base. Poles for skate skiing should be about the height of your lips, or to your chin if you have shoulder issues. See the skier on the right in the photo above.

All of our lessons are taught on a track groomed by Teton Valley Trails and Pathways, packed specifically with grooves for classic skiing or a wide area for skate skiing.
